One person has died and at least 71 others were injured on board a Singapore Airlines plane that encountered severe turbulence on Tuesday. Flightradar24, an aviation tracking site, says that its data indicates the turbulence occurred over Myanmar. The flight was en route from Singapore to Milan when it encountered the sudden and extreme turbulence over Myanmar's Irrawaddy Basin at 37,000 feet, about 10 hours after takeoff.
According to Flightradar24, the plane descended rapidly by about 5,000 feet in a matter of seconds. The injured passengers were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The cause of the turbulence is still under investigation.
